No more Starbucks where I normally frequent…

July 31, 2008

No more stores at Carlingford, Chatswood, Blacktown, Bondi Junction, Erina Fair, Hornsby and Parra!

The ‘original store’ at Hyde Park’s still gonna be there + one at the airport… And at the Kids’ Hospital @ Westmead!

I’m thankful and glad that my friends can still get their fix within proximity (but not really with convenience anymore).

For a full list of store closures, see Starbucks Australia website.

Starbucks Down Under…

July 29, 2008

Ahhh!!! I just read in the Sydney Morning Herald today that there are speculations of some Starbucks closures! O… K… There are less than 30 Starbucks in Sydney, compared to about 60 in Singapore (which is smaller than Sydney!!) and they are gonna shut some down?

I once had a convo with a Starbucks manager who told me that the parent company had a philosophy of even keeping stores that weren’t making profits since it was more to do with having a presence than making money… Guess with all the crazy losses in America where there apparently is a Starbucks at every corner, it’s forced this drastic measure!

We shall wait and see…

Read on for the article in SMH…

Coffee mega-chain Starbucks has refused to hose down speculation that managers of Australian stores will be told at a meeting at 4pm today of plans to close outlets.

A month after the chain’s US office announced the closure of 600 stores there, workers at Sydney Starbucks stores  have confirmed that staff have been summoned to a meeting today.

There are more than two dozen stores in Sydney and 85 nationwide. Read the rest of this entry ?

58 hours to my departure…

July 14, 2008

Time SERIOUSLY flies!!! How did 2 months become 2.4 days so soon?

I cannot contain my excitement about what lies ahead… but I know I will also miss all my very dear friends here.

After my last service @ church on Sunday, I thought about how the thing I think most about when I’m leaving’s PEOPLE… Not buildings, not shops and certainly not food! (Even though I am not sure how I would cope without Starbucks… Ah!) I spent Sunday night after church on our ‘ritual’ Outback chesse fries (with ranch & honey mustard) trip and loved every moment of just hanging.

I am grateful for every moment I’ve had with my lovely friends and I am totally gonna stay in touch with all of you… CHEERING you on toward the most AMAZING destinies that you have!!!

i heart my church!!!

June 29, 2008

If you think that my frequency of trips to Starbucks n’ the shops are aplenty, then you’ll probably think that the amount of time that I spend in church is crazy! :) Haha…

I LOVE my church, which has been my ‘home’ now for the past decade, where I’ve had the pleasure of building great relationships and where I’ve been challenged to grow in every way. (So many mindsets broken by the Word of God!)  It has also been the place where I’ve been able to give of myself in service with my talents n’ giftings… To know that my contribution, together with the sacrifices of so many others, is bigger COLLECTIVELY and more able to bless MULTITUDES MORE than I could ever dream of really makes me feel like I’m a part of something BIGGER n’ MORE AMAZING than my self, my life and my wants.

I have so much more to say about this but I’m gonna get ready to go back to my fav place now :)

i heart starbucks :)

June 28, 2008

This is the first Starbucks store that opened in Sydney many moons ago… and the one I used to frequent at least once a week… I still think it’s one of the prettiest ones around since it overlooks Hyde Park in the city. (See the lush trees in the reflection!)

Hanging Out With My ‘x’Homies

June 25, 2008

Monday evening… As I opened the door of my ‘just-old’ house, the little princess was sitting on the stairs… And as she turned around, the first thing she uttered were those familiar words, “TIKA-wa-wa!”

Ah… The sweet sound of my name as interpreted by a 2-year-old!

So I thought I’d drop by after work today to just hang with ze homies… just like old times! And it felt totally like it!!! A fire, S’mores, chocolate fondue, Project Runway n’ Celebrity Apprentice AND GREAT COMPANY! Feels like home… (Hmm… where have I heard that phrase?)

I still love my Ardyn, Sarah, Kati, Paul & Lando (even though I don’t think 5-month-old Lando will ever know me!!!)

O yes… and we played with Photobooth just like ‘ole times too ;) See next post…

21 days n’ (not counting)…

June 25, 2008

Sunset @ church (Chapel in background)

Can’t remember if I’ve ever said this here… but I find that during a time of transition, everything seems more ‘meaningful.’ It’s as if your senses become heightened. Sunsets and sunrises appear more beautiful… Greens look greener, blues look bluer… And the presence of your friends?… SO precious!!!

Tonight I had the privilege of having dinner with a bunch of amazing people that I serve in church with (actually my last Connect *sob*). We had a feast (totally should do this more often!!!) and then a time when everyone just said the loveliest things to me. Everyone encouraged my heart and many spoke words that God knew I needed to hear.

I have to admit I was a little ‘nervous’ going into my first ‘farewell’ as I was sure I’d be a soppy ‘wreck!’ But ha! thanks to my crazy counterparts, there were many laughs all through the night! From the crazy game we, a competitive bunch of “only-winner-wannabes” played… to someone’s description of me being ‘multiple!!!’ (It was s’posed to be ‘mouldable’), it was just madness all around.

So I just need to say this… I am SO THANKFUL for all the VERY AMAZING people that God has put in my life thus far. I have been blessed with the FINEST friends and leaders all around and I am truly honoured to be able to do life with all of you. YOU! have totally helped me become who I am today because of your love, care, wisdom, guidance, prayers and JUST BECAUSE we are a team… and teams sharpen each other!

I am glad that I am ‘not leaving’… but just ‘extending the family!’ It’s heart-warming to know that my family now spans three continents :) *Yaay!*
